This is the first home I have ever had with zoysia and this is the first spring that I tried the whole "routine." This scarifier did a great job. It was quieter and easier to use than expected.This house was rehabbed 13 years ago and the series of owners since then have not been lawn care people. The yard was heavily thatched. I looked into renting a gas-powered rake which would require raking up the litter by hand, and this machine was about twice the price of a rental and came with a bagger, so it seemed worth buying. And it was!I started by mowing the lawn down as low as my mower would go (collecting and bagging up all the debris). Then found the right setting for scarifying depth which is actually this machines highest setting. It bagged up the thatch litter perfectly and scored the soil just about 1/4". It pulled out shockingly few green blades of grass. I expected it to do a lot more of ripping out live blades, but it didn't. Now the lawn is incredibly clean and smoother than I would have expected. It also knocked down the high places such as former mole hills. (Some of these visible in the photo).The machine is very light weight. Easy to push & maneuver. It has warnings about its noise level, but I would say it's quieter than my electric mower. It's almost square in shape and about the same size as its bag attachment so by removing the handles, it takes up a very small foot print in storage. It's also light weight enough that I think most people would be able to place it on a shelf as well which is a bonus.The only downer is my lawn is quite large and between the mowing and the scarifier, I filled 22 lawn bags. The good news is, that was after 13 years of neglect so I expect the amount to be less in the future.Good purchase. I would get it again.
